Garmin ActiveCaptain® is a free mobile app that transforms how you interact with your Garmin chartplotter and the broader boating community. Pair it with your compatible chartplotter to wirelessly access charts, maps, software updates, routes, and waypoints—all while staying connected to real-time feedback from thousands of boaters.

Planning and trip preparation become seamless with this app. Scout new fishing spots, chart your route, and mark waypoints before you leave the dock. Once you've planned your journey, transfer everything to your chartplotter with a single tap. Your routes and waypoints sync automatically between your mobile device and chartplotter, so your navigation data is always current across all your devices.

The app unlocks access to advanced cartography options including Garmin Navionics+™ and premium Garmin Navionics Vision+™ charts, available now for North America and Europe with global expansion coming soon. These charts combine integrated Garmin and Navionics data with advanced Auto Guidance+ technology for superior coverage and detail. You can also download NOAA raster cartography and premium map features free through the app. Purchase new charts or legacy BlueChart® g3 options directly from your phone and upload them to registered chartplotters on your vessel.

Connect with the ActiveCaptain Community to benefit from collective boating knowledge. Read and contribute reviews, ratings, and photos of marinas, boat ramps, and points of interest. This shared intelligence helps you make informed decisions on the water. The app also supports Garmin Quickdraw™ Community integration, letting you download and upload 1' HD contour maps created by fellow boaters.

The Helm™ feature puts remote chartplotter control in your hands. View and command your compatible chartplotter from your smartphone or tablet, even when you're away from the helm. Smart notifications bridge your devices seamlessly—see incoming calls, texts, and alerts on your chartplotter display while your phone stays safe and dry.

Boat monitoring and system control expand with the optional OnDeck™ hub (sold separately with subscription). Track switches, receive alerts about open doors or bilge status, and monitor your vessel from virtually anywhere. Receive notifications about chartplotter software updates directly in the app and update wirelessly without docking.
